Today is Earth Rotation Day, celebrating the discovery made by French physicist Leon Foucault that our planet rotates on its axis every 24 hours. Within those 24 hours, Landsat satellites speed along at approximately 17,000 miles per hour, orbiting the Earth every 99 minutes for about 14 orbits per day. The joint USGS/NASA Landsat Program provides the longest continuous space-based record of Earth’s land. Landsat data gives us information essential for making informed decisions about Earth’s res
