In 2018, the Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor AWD took over BMW as the “Ultimate Driving Machine” in my book. It started at Zero to 60 in 4.7 seconds, then a free software upgrade reduced that to 4.2 seconds in 2018.

Jun 21, 2024 · If Tesla would sell a Model 3 with a Performance rear drive unit, completely uncorked, and NO stability control, sign me up ;-) Tire wear is greater in the AWD cars. Somehow the RWD cars are so well balanced between rear regeneration and front turning scrub that I just stopped rotating tires on the RWD M3s.

Nov 25, 2012 · The dual motor Model 3 and Y feel very rear-biased to me in typical part-throttle power delivery. I believe that's very intentional. The rear motor is permanent magnet, the front is induction. When only partial power is requested, it's most efficient to use only the rear motor. Full power e.g. flooring it in a straight line requires both motors.

Mar 10, 2018 · Big difference between single and dual motor Model S, as Eclectic has noted above. Dual is incredibly surefooted, even with all-seasons on snow and ice. Sort of like the old metal-cap Volant skis. RWD Model 3 is fun, but the back feels a little dance-happy, even on dry pavement. I suspect that AWD will again be rock-solid.

Jan 10, 2019 · Sticker says "Dual Motor Performance." But the car display says "Dual Motor." No where does the software say Performance version. Since this was a significant expense, I am just curious how I can confirm I got the Performance upgrade. The acceleration is impressive but I assume that is true of both dual motor and performance versions.

Nov 20, 2021 · I only test-drove the dual motor once and don't remember how it behaved, but I'll take your word for it. All I can say is that I drove our single-motor Model 3 from Sherman Oaks to Santa Monica yesterday and used the brakes a whopping three times the whole 14 mile trip - and very lightly. Regen works very well on the base model.
