What with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage being a pre-requisite for me, there’s a chance that in a few months time I’ll be able to pick up a slightly used or refurbished (not from Apple) M4 MacBook Pro for the same price as a new M4 Air.

Dec 2, 2020 · See, now that I’m an owner of an M4 Mac, I’m tempted to test the waters of local LLMs. I bought the same machine as OP, the M4 Pro with 24GB of RAM. However, I’m switching to an M4 with 32GB of RAM, because I don’t really use the GPU that much, and upgrading storage and RAM on the M4 Pro is painful (for my pocket).

Just the base Mac studio with the M4 is going to be something that users might sell their M4 Mac mini Pro for... So REALLY the question is can you wait 6 or 7 months for the M4 Mac Studio. If you CAN'T then buy the Mac mini Pro.
