The Ohio River is a 981-mile-long (1,579 km) river in the United States. It is located at the boundary of the Midwestern and Southern United States, flowing in a southwesterly direction from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to its mouth on the Mississippi River in Cairo, Illinois.
In the present study, certain characteristics of the Ohio River bed rock profile and valley width were found that indicate reversal in direction of flow of the upper Ohio and suggest the location of the divide between the old north-flowing and south-flowing drainage.
