Loretta C. Wells’ duties as Thornton Township Clerk are an essential part of township government. As the official custodian of Thornton Township records, Clerk Wells safeguards, preserves, and manages all documents and information for the public record and public access, ensuring transparency.

The Thornton Township Senior Transportation Department has been serving the community since 1983. We offer curb-to-curb services from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for people ages 60 or older.

Thornton Township provides over 1,000 nutritious food boxes each week, providing nearly 50,000 meals annually to those in need. Many residents receiving food assistance also volunteer at the Food Assistance Center to support other families in need.

Illinois’ 1,434 townships continue to serve more than 8 million of the state’s residents. Thornton Township, the largest township in the State of Illinois, has approximately 185,000 residents.

The Assessor’s Office maintains property records for more than 100,000 real estate parcels in Thornton Township, together with Sidwell and other maps. These maps are used to locate property for clients, i.e., real estate brokers, lawyers, city clerks, building commissioners and others as requested.

The department is integral to supporting the Thornton Township’s Human Relations Commission, a body composed of community volunteers representing diverse age groups and cultural backgrounds. This commission strives to foster inclusivity, equity, and social harmony across the township’s 17 municipalities and unincorporated areas.
