Snow, 78, died Friday, July 4 at his home in Connecticut, Variety reports. The composer, who enjoyed a long career in TV and film, once recounted how the “X-Files” theme came to be in an interview for the Television Academy Foundation.

Mark Snow, the veteran television composer who turned “The X-Files ” theme into an unlikely chart hit in the 1990s, died Friday at his home in Connecticut. He was 78.

In addition to The X Files main theme, which was released as a single in 1996 and charted internationally, Snow composed the music for over 200 episodes and both feature films of the hit science fiction show about a pair of paranormal FIB investigators.
