Beef Tallow is made by removing, simmering and clarifying the fatty tissue of beef. Beef tallow is typically used for cooking at high temperatures such as deep frying and roasting. Lard has now been replaced by vegetable oil in most kitchens. Lard is a semi-solid white fat product obtained by rendering the fatty tissue of a pig.

“There will be no more compromise on the quality of the laddus and the quality of ghee used (to make it),” TTD Executive Officer J Syamala Rao said. However, the TTD announced on Saturday that it will temporarily suspend the use of cow ghee and milk-based products in the preparation of other offerings, or “prasadams,” for the deity.

A wave of shock and anger has swept through Ram Nagari (Ayodhya) after reports surfaced alleging the use of cow fat and fish oil in the famous laddus distributed as prasadam at the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati,

The ghee used for preparing prasadam was tested at a Gujarat-based National Dairy Board which found traces of "foreign fat".

According to the sources, laddus weighing around three tonnes had been sent to Ayodhya by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which managed the affairs of Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple popularly known as Tirupati Temple.
