A Boeing jet earmarked for China was returning to the United States on Friday, flight tracking data showed, as the planemaker's flagship delivery plant outside Shanghai was drawn into a deepening tariff war between Beijing and Washington.

After the Chinese government reportedly told domestic airlines not to purchase new planes from Boeing, one jet had to be returned to the U.S. from a facility near Shanghai.

China has ordered airlines to stop accepting Boeing jets, Bloomberg reports, as tensions rise over US tariffs on Chinese goods.
