Microsoft rocked the gaming world in January 2022 when it confirmed plans to buy Activision Blizzard for a record-breaking $68.7 billion. The FTC sued to stop it, and that case continued even after the acquisition was completed in 2023.

To appease regulator concerns, Microsoft carved out deals to bring Xbox games to non-Xbox streaming platforms and also continue to release games on non-Xbox platforms. Microsoft is indeed doing that, and for April 2025 in the US, five out of the top seven best-selling PS5 games were published by Xbox.

Some boss battles are just too daunting, which the Federal Trade Commission has discovered in its ongoing effort to defeat Microsoft's $69 billion takeover of Activision-Blizzard.
