Officials arrested a 13-year-old boy after video footage caught the teen setting off fireworks that sparked the small vegetation fire, according to the Laguna Beach Police Department.
The fire, dubbed the Rancho fire, started around 2:30 p.m. near Rancho Laguna Road and Morningside Drive, according to the Laguna Beach Fire Department.
Anyone with information or video footage related to the fire was urged to contact the Laguna Beach Police Department’s detective bureau at (949) 715-0984.
The fire began in the city of Laguna Beach at about 2:15 p.m. local time on July 7 and grew to four acres, threatening nearby homes, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
