After a federal judge in Los Angeles barred “roving patrols” by immigration agents in seven California counties, the Trump administration asked the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to resume operations that lawyers for the state have argued are unconstitutional.

A federal judge temporarily halted the administration from making indiscriminate arrests based on race and denying detainees access to lawyers, in a lawsuit that could have national repercussions.

A federal judge on Friday blocked the Donald Trump administration from carrying out broad immigration raids and arrests in Los Angeles that target individuals solely based on their race, location, language or type of work.
