The New York Jets' head coaching search faces an early setback as 49ers quarterbacks coach Brian Griese turns down an interview request, sparking debate among fans and analysts.

The New York Jets are on the hunt for their next head coach after firing their last man, Robert Saleh, in the middle of the 2024 season. Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich was interviewed as a candidate but it’s unlikely he will receive the promotion after the Jets 5-12.

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, 49ers QB coach Brian Griese declined an interview request from the Jets for their head coaching vacancy.

Former head coach Robert Saleh was fired by the team all the way back in October. At the time, New York had a 2-3 record. After turning things over to interim Jeff Ulbrich, it didn’t go much better. The Jets finished the 2024 NFL season at 5-12.
