Leatherbacks are the largest sea turtle species and the only species that doesn’t have a hard shell. They range from 4 to 6 feet in length and weigh from 550 to 1,545 pounds.

On South Padre alone, Sea Turtle Inc. rescued 5,556 sea turtles over eight days as water temperatures stayed below the 50-degree threshold.

Green turtles are the largest of all hard-shelled sea turtles but have comparatively small heads. A typical adult is 3 to 4 feet long and weighs 300 to 350 pounds.
