Malaysia’s rescue team saved a victim who had been trapped for over 72 hours under the rubble after last week’s earthquake in Myanmar. Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Smart) found a man in his 40s in a state of shock in a residential area in the central Sagaing region of Myanmar – which was the epicentre of the earthquake.

Hopes of finding survivors are ‘diminishing’ as the critical 72-hour window in which people can survive without water closes.
