Slated for general release before the end of this year, the diminutive low-end Oracle Database XE (10g Express Edition) currently supports Microsoft Windows and 32-bit Linux.

Developers are the target audience for 10g XE, according to Mark Townsend, senior director of database product management at Oracle. "There are four clear development communities," Townsend said.
