A massive security breach forced GEDmatch to shut down its site and exposed the DNA profiles of more than a million people who use the online service to law enforcement agencies.

Police in Florida recently obtained a warrant to search people’s genetic profiles on the public genealogy website GEDmatch, setting off a fresh wave of privacy concerns over DNA sleuthing.
