Beginning May 7, 2025, REAL ID-compliant driver licenses will be one of several valid forms of identification people will need to have to travel by air in the United States.

There will be no more delays. The federal government says it will begin enforcing Real ID requirements on May 7.

Starting May 7, North Carolina residents will need a REAL ID, U.S. passport or another federally-approved form of identification to board commercial flights and access secure federal buildings.
