South Carolina is getting its sixth area code in the near future. Here’s when and which residents will get new numbers.

It will be the 11th area code in the state, the Georgia Public Service Commission announced on Tuesday.

State regulators announced Tuesday that the 502 area code is running out of available numbers and will soon be supplemented with a new area code.

The new area code will be 912 and will serve parts of southeastern Georgia, according to the Georgia Public Service Commission.

Earlier this year, state officials held a meeting in Louisville to plan for 2027, when the 502 area code exhausts its available numbers.
