A woman in southeastern North Carolina beat odds of 1 in 1,354,380 to be the first jackpot winner in the aptly named $1,000,000 Money Rush game. Barbara Jenkins, of Richlands, paid $10 for the scratch-off ticket, which means she got a $100,000 return for every buck she spent.

The 63-year-old’s stroke of luck came Dec. 30, when she bought a Lucky7s Fast Cash ticket in Saginaw and realized she had hit the jackpot. Her prize of $855,779 left her with an “unbelievable feeling,” she told Michigan Lottery officials in a Jan. 24 news release.

Leon purchased the $10 ticket at PJ Express #1 in Blytheville. He bought the ticket after some encouragement from his wife who “had a good feeling” about their chances. To his shock, he won one of the game’s top prizes of $200,000. His wife said she was “stunned” and speechless.

Two lottery players tried their luck at Fantasy 5 — and won the jackpot prize, according to the Georgia Lottery. The lucky players matched all five numbers drawn Monday, Jan. 20, to win $403,502 each, the lottery said.

Better odds and bigger jackpots. The California Lottery Commission is scheduled to vote Thursday on changing the way the Mega Millions game is played.

The New York Lottery announced one top-prize winning ticket — worth $32,512 — was sold for the Jan. 23 TAKE 5 evening drawing. It was sold at Buy-Rite Pharmacy, located at 11 Chatham Square, in Manhattan. The winning numbers are: 3, 9, 11, 18, and 35.

A ticket sold in Pensacola matched five numbers in the evening drawing Wednesday, Jan. 22, to win the $111,892.95 jackpot, according to the Florida Lottery. The lucky player purchased the winning ticket at the Palafox Quick Stop convenience store, beating odds of 1 in 376,992 to take the top prize, officials said.
