The open source Java Binding for OpenGL (JOGL) project introduces hardware-supported 3D graphics to Java programs running on Solaris, Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X platforms.

An academic paper [PDF] published in 2018 identified a code snippet Lundblad posted on the site as the most copied Java code taken from StackOverflow and then re-used in open source projects.

With its ease of running code in many environments, the Java platform attracts a large share of open-source development interest.
