Suffolk County Sheriff Steve Tompkins is set to appear in federal court on Thursday to be arraigned on corruption charges. Tompkins’s appearance at the John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse in the Seaport was moved from Wednesday to Thursday earlier in the week due to a “scheduling conflict” noted in court records.

After being arrested on extortion charges earlier this month, Suffolk County Sheriff Steven Tompkins pleaded not guilty in court on Thursday. WBZ-TV's Kristina Rex reports.

Tompkins' image took a big hit last week when FBI agents arrested him in Florida and federal prosecutors charged him with extorting a local cannabis business. But the sheriff's fellow Democrats have so far been reluctant to cast judgment or call for his resignation.
