Metacritic has revealed its 15th annual game publisher rankings, and its first-ever three-time winner is at the top of the list. At the top of the list is Sega, on the back of a strong performance by the JRPG Metaphor: ReFantazio,

Sega was the top-rated publisher of 2024, at least according to Metacritic, the popular website used for collecting reviews and providing score averages. Metacritic published its ranking for video game publishers in 2024 on Wednesday,

In the top 10 for 2024, Microsoft is ninth on this ladder with Astro Bot publisher Sony in fourth spot. Taking out first is SEGA (jumping from ninth place) with games like Metaphor: ReFantazio, and dethroning Capcom who recently released Monster Hunter Wilds.

By this metric, Capcom still managed a very impressive #2 ranking, barely edged out by SEGA; still deserving of its Capgod status. Interestingly, Aksys Games secured the #3 spot, with its highest scoring game being Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II at 83.

Sega topped the latest annual rankings ahead of Capcom, which was Metacritic’s highest-rated publisher of 2023, and Aksys Games. 2022’s winner, Sony, was ranked at No.4, five places ahead of 2021’s top-rated publisher, Microsoft. Meanwhile Nintendo, which last took the top spot in 2014, ranked at No.22.

Metacritic has released its annual rankings of the best game publishers of the year and there's not a big name American company in the whole top eight.
