Police and fire officials in New Jersey are warning residents that low-hanging wildfire smoke is setting off carbon monoxide detectors Sunday morning.

Wildfires were burning from one end of New Jersey to the other on Friday after one of the driest months on record, leading New York City to issue smoke warnings and forcing farmers to take steps to protect their harvests.

Wildfires continue to rage across the Northeast, with 27 million people under fire alerts. In southern New Jersey, a forest fire has prompted evacuations as flames continue to spread.

As wildfires continue to burn across NJ, wind gusts up to 30 mph have fueled a Red Flag Warning for the entire state as well as neighboring states.

Firefighters in New Jersey are stretched even thinner as yet another wildfire burns in bone-dry conditions in the state.

A spate of wildfires crisscrossing New Jersey prompted a statewide smoke advisory on Friday, as flames from one blaze in the Palisades, across the Hudson River from Manhattan, roared dangerously close to the nearby suburbs.
