You can easily walk downtown (turn left after leaving port), crossing the swing bridge. The Supreme Court is a beautiful building across the street from a small park. On down that street is the cultural center, the former residence of the a British governors. Across the street is St. John's Cathedral. However, you may also want to catch a tour "bus" (sort of a train) for an overview of the city and history.
