A huge impressive Dzong sitting majestically between two rivers. As others have said such an imposing grand historic structure still in use today. As such there is limited access inside the courtyard…Full review by purplemyrtles

River rafting in Paro / Thimphu / Phunakha in Sept 2019 - any idea?
A:
You can do rafting in Punakha. It will cost you 7000/8000 for a raft. A raft will take in 6 people. Punakha will be the only place where you can do rafting.
HI... About Punakha Dzong - What is the attire / clothes to be worn / allowed by monks to enter & visit the Punakha Dzong monastry? For ladies in saris? Allowed? For men - shorts allowed? We are a group of 15 Gujarati Veg from Mumbai visiting Bhutan in mid-Sept. Any good places to have Indian snacks in between Thimphu, Punakha & Paro?

Hi there! Well, Sari for women is perfect. If Sari is not worn then any T-Shirt or Kurta or Sweater (if it is cold) which covers the entirety of the hand (from shoulders to wrist) is also fine. Full length trousers are needed in case of men. Shorts aren't preferable since it's a monastery and that too, one of the most revered ones of Bhutan. Regarding food: I don't remember their being any restaurants in between on the highways connecting Paro, Thimphu and Punakha. There are some (very few) instances wherein people sell Spiced Cucumbers on the roadside. These Cucumbers are fairly hygienic and you can savour them if you want to. Otherwise, you'll have no choice but to wait for Paro, Thimphu or Punakha to come. In between Thimphu and Punakha there is a place called Dochula Pass (very famous actually) where there's a Cafe that serves tea/coffee throughout the day, and snacks till lunch time. Enjoy!
